The Tale Of The Two Afums
It is not too often that we have name sakes in Ghana football playing at the top level. In the eighties, we had two top players being affectionately called Joe Tex- midfieder Akwetey Quaye of Asante Kotoko fame and national defence player Joe Odoi of Accra Hearts of Oak. But these were found to be what is known in local parlance as “guy names”.
In the late seventies, getting to the early eighties we had “the Paha brothers” P.S.K.Paha of the victorious 1978 Black Stars Africa Cup team and Isaac Paha of Sekondi Hasaacas and Accra Hearts of Oak who also played for the Black Stars and later became a national coach.

Edward Afum Of Asante Kotoko
Currently hitting the headlines are two exciting young strikers playing for the nations two best teams Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak .They are Edward Afum of Kotoko and Samuel Affum of Hearts of Oak.
I am personally excited about their names for sentimental reasons. My youngest son, a Systems engineer in the US, is called Afum named after my late grand father who was reportedly a football lover. My son is unfortunately no avid football fan but there are strong indications that his son Kobby, who is my grandson will take to football in the future.

Samuel Afum Of Accra Hearts Of Oak
Samuel Afum a product of Ken Harrison Colts club and Edward Afum formerly of Tema Youth, have no family relations. Samuel is a Fante from the Central Region of Ghana and Edward is half Kwahu and half Akuapem from the Eastern Region. What they have in common is the knack for scoring goals and both of them are top scorers in their respective clubs.
With their abundant football talent and proper guidance it may not be long when they will hit the international limelight.
Kudos and keep the name of Afum flying.
