Ronaldo The Special One
I am sure Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho who styles himself as “the special one” would be ready to surrender his appellation to Cristiano Ronaldo for that splendid goal that sailed Manchester United into the semi finals of the European Champions’ League at the expense of FC Porto on Wednesday night. The sixth minute pile driver was all that United needed to neutralize the forays of the fast running Portuguese champions.
Manchester United looked good on the night and it was fitting that they produced the goods to earn another first; the first English team to beat Porto on their home grounds. I would leave it to the highly appreciative English sports writers to find the appropriate words to describe Ronaldo’s goal.
Meanwhile, I am making a special appeal to the tennis people who I see on TV producing a device that can measure the speed at which the ball is served to do the same to Ronaldo’s long range bullet and measure the distance too. It may come in handy when the search begins for the best goal in this year’s Champions’ League.
Hello Arsenal are you there? The youngsters from the Emirates stadium are in top scoring form having demolished Villarreal 3-0 to fix a date against Manchester United in the semi finals. It is hoped that Arsenal have not spent all their ammunition and they would be up to the task against a United side that has proved to be adept in both attacking football and defensive play.
There is a distinct possibility that the final could be an all-English affair like we had last season. Notwithstanding Barcelona’s easy ride over Bayern Munich, they could find Chelsea a tough nut to crack and I can foresee a restage of last year’s Chelsea – Manchester United thriller.
