Kotoko Coach Throws In The Towel?
The teeming supporters of Kumai Asante Kotoko who thought their young braggart coach Opeele Aboagye could revive the sagging spirits of the club with some impressive victories must revise their notes. He seems to have given up. He says “the problems facing the club are such that not even a world class coach like Guus Hiddink of Chelsea will achieve anything in Kotoko”.
According to coach Aboagye, the problem with the club is back biting and petty bickering over unimportant matters, rumour mongering and gossips. Observers however wonder how these unimportant matters could affect the standard of play of the defending champions who have lost their last three games not to mention the loss of three out of their last four home fixtures against Hearts of Oak, Eleven Wise and All Blacks.
Keen observers of the football scene suspect that Coach Opeele is finding the assignment too tough for his liking and he is only looking for a scapegoat on the eve of a tricky home derby against Kessben at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi this weekend. Kessben beat Kotoko 1-0 in the first round and Kessben Coach Bashiru Hayford, who was unceremoniously sacked from Kotoko is looking for another opportunity to teach Kotoko a lesson.
I would like to submit that Coach Opeele Aboagye has showed such cowardice unexpected from the top coach that he claims to be and it would be for the good of Kotoko if the young man is asked to prepare his handing over notes immediately after another poor show by the club.
The other interesting fixtures in the second round of the premier league will involve run -away leaders Accra Hearts of Oak and Liberty Professionals at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra. Hearts are tipped to maintain their grip on top of the table with a comfortable win.
The other fixtures with their peculiar attractions are Tema Youth v Berekum Arsenal at Tema; Eleven Wise take on Lions in Sekondi; Wa All Stars host Kumasi King Faisal; and Ashantigold meet Bechem Chelsea at Sunyani.
