Ghana Football Changing For The Better
Gradually but unnoticeably the administration of Ghana football is changing for the better. The football association is gradually taking lessons from the real professionals in Europe especially where the premier league and international matches are concerned.
Gone are the days when league fixtures could be postponed on flimsy excuses. At times league could pile up because of continental matches both at club and national level. A club was entitled to ask for postponement if it contributed a certain number of players to the national team and so on.
All this is changing and we can now play the league on a Saturday and conveniently honour international fixtures the following day like we did last week against Libya in the World Cup qualifier in Kumasi.
Asante Kotoko missed two of their most influential players, defender Harrison Afful and aspiring goal king Eric Bekoe to the national team but they found substitutes to honour the crucial league tie against fellow title chasers Liberty Professionals That is the spirit of the game. The support and understanding from the clubs has helped the football association to organize a smooth league. Players not on national duty will get the chance to prove their merit in the absence of the regulars Its all in the game.
Kudos to the Professional League Board headed by astute football administrator Welbeck Abra-Appiah who has religiously stuck to the rules thus ensuring a free flow competition. In an Olympic year the sports calendar is a rather crowded and it is hoped both fans and match officials will comport themselves so that we have an incident free competition.
