MAY 12th 1993: Accra Great Olympics have appealed to the GFA to declare null and void the outcome of their league match against Real Tamale United last Sunday and order a replay.
After going down 0-1 from a doubtful penalty, Olympics equalized in the 47th minute. A statement by team manager Ken Augustt said “The goal which was a perfect Kwabena Asiedu header beat the RTU goalkeeper and hit the net but referee H.M.Oppong of Berekum failed to whistle for a goal until the goalie went and scooped the ball from the posts and the referee surprisingly allowed play to continue. We protested and held up play for 10 minutes, but not to bring the match into confusion we continued. The referee must be disciplined”, the statement added.
MAY 12th 1994: FIFA could decide next week to increase the number of finalists in the 1998 World Cup to 32 from the current 24 and host country France are expecting soccer chief Havelange’s proposal to be approved.
MAY 12th 1994: Coach C.K.Gyamfi has been made fully responsible for the national soccer team Black Stars. He says he will start on a clean slate.
MAY 11th 1995: Mike Tyson has been rated number one by the World Boxing Council and Evander Holyfield, Michael Moorer and Lennox Lewis are not happy. “It’s not right. You look at the situation and it’s the kind of political type of thing, which is not fair for the other guys. You should have to fight somebody in the top,” said a joint statement by the three aggrieved former world champions.

MAY 12th 1998: Martina Hingis beats hottest rival Venus Williams 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to capture the Italian Open.
MAY 11th 1999: Ekow Selby alias Joe Ringo has dragged George Adusei Poku (Georgido) to court over the ownership of Swedru All Blacks Football Club. The Court has fixed May 24 for hearing.
MAY 12th 1999: The Minister of Sports E.T.Mensah says the tartan track at Accra stadium will form part of the second phase of the refurbishment.
MAY 11th 2001: the government of Ghana appoints a five member Commission of Inquiry to probe the May 9 disaster at Accra Sports Stadium which resulted in the death of 126 people. Sam Okudzeto, a former President of the Ghana Bar Association is chairman. Other members are Prof. Akua Kuenyehia , Dean faculty of Law University of Ghana Legon; Prof Ofosu –Amaah, private legal practitioner, Prof A.B.Akosa of the Ghana Medical School and Ken Bediako,a veteran sports journalist. The Commission was given four weeks to complete work.
