March 23rd 1995 : Manchester United striker Eric Cantona has been sentenced to two weeks imprisonment for common assault.
March 24th 1995: Mike Tyson out of jail to a tumultuous welcome. He takes Muslim name Mikhail Abdul Aziz.
March 28th 1995: Former world number one tennis player Monica Seles suffers nightmare about being attacked again and feels like a “bird trapped in a cage”, her psychologist told a German court in Hamburg.
March 27th 1996: Ashanti Goldfields coach Sampaio, flies back home after dispute with chief executive Kojo Nunoo. Reports say the coach dispersed the players after Africa Cup match against Yennega in Burkina Faso contrary to previous arrangements. When queried by Kojo Nunoo, the coach took offence and decided to fly home. "I am going home. I have done enough" he added.
March 31st 1996: A 74th minute goal by Prince Adu Poku ended abruptly the league match between Sekondi Eleven Wise and Asante Kotoko in Sekondi. Eleven Wise claimed the ball did not cross the line. Supporters took over the field with sticks and stones. The match was being officiated by Police Referee Okuampah from Koforidua. When the field was cleared after 15 minutes and players were ready to resume play, missiles were still raining from all angles and the referee left for the dressing room amidst tight security. The two teams remained on the pitch till 5.15 pm when they left. Eleven Wise were later banned from playing two home matches for the behaviour of their fans.
March 21st 1997: Roy Jones snatched defeat from the jaws of victory losing the WBC light heavyweight title to fellow American Montell Griffin by disqualification. Jones who took a 34-0 record and a sterling reputation into the fight appeared about to win by KO but referee Tony Perez disqualified Jones for hitting the challenger twice in the head while he was down on one knee at 2m27secs of the ninth round.
March 24th 1997: Top seed Martina Hingis avoided her first defeat of the year with a three set victory over Canadian Patricia Hy-Boulais in the second round of the Lipton championship. The Swiss teenage sensation was outplayed in the first set, a rarity that year but rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over 59th ranked Hy-Boulais.
March 25th 1997: The Ghana Football Association bans Okwawu United for three home matches for continuous misconduct during matches at Nkawkaw notably against Dawu Youngsters on Jan 22 and Accra Hearts of Oak on Feb 7.
March 25th 1997: Accra Hearts of Oak sack Coach Ofei Ansah for “repeated acts of gross misconduct during camping” says a statement signed by E.M.Commodore, Acting CEO of the club.
