Coach Bashiru Gets Revenge
Asante Kotoko’s former coach Bashiru Hayford who was sacked by the club under very bizarre circumstances made a secret vow to seek revenge for that unceremonious dismissal from office. When he was signed on by Premier division Kessben FC founded by Kwabena Kessie another aggrieved former director of Asante Kotoko, the coach sensed he had got the right platform to plot revenge. The two clubs would by all means meet in the Premiership and a victory over Kotoko would be a sweet revenge, he envisaged.
So come March 22nd at the Abramkese Park and Bashiru’s dreams came true when Kessben stretched Kotoko to the full and scored a last minute goal to claim the three points at stake. It was a bitter pill for Kotoko fans to swallow following an impressive 3-0 win over Berekum Arsenals during the midweek.
It was a hilarious occasion for Bashiru who was carried shoulder high by Kessben supporters. Conversely, it was a big setback for the flamboyant Kotoko coach Isaac Opeele Boateng who saw Kotoko’s Championship hopes being dented as league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak stretched their lead on the table following their spectacular 3-1 win over Liberty Professionals in Accra.
Bashiru owes a debt of gratitude to Kwabena Kessie for paving the way for him to regain his self confidence just like the way Alex Ferguson’s Man United sudden loss of form has put more such vigour in Liverpool coach Benitez that he extended his contract at the Merseyside and his team is now banging in the goals at will. This is the interesting aspect of football. The scales can tilt all of a sudden but you can trust the undying spirit of Manchester United supporters who still believe that despite the club’s sudden loss of form they would soon rise up and the title could be theirs.
One fanatic supporter of United sent me an e- mail with an obvious jovial explanation that United could be deliberately setting up a stormy finish so that the Barclays League doesn’t become any one team’s monopoly and put to shame complaints by FIFA boss Sepp Blatter.
There is a proverb in my local dialect which freely translates says “if the chief of your village is dead and you go round with the story that he is asleep that is your own problem”.
I hope Alex Ferguson will ignore this supporter. I know Alex is experienced enough to detect the loopholes in his team One of his strong points is that he hardly blames any outside forces for his team’s inability to gel and this is a trait I would like up and coming coaches like Charles Akunnor of Sekondi Eleven Wise to emulate.
It does not pay to be always looking for imaginary enemies otherwise you lose concentration on the coaching job you are contracted to perform. The 3-0 spanking Eleven Wise received at the hands of Kpandu Lions should be a wake up call that apart from the sensational newspaper headlines, you don’t get more than three points by beating giants like Asante Kotoko or Accra Hearts of Oak.
Cheers everybody keep loving sports.
