Baba Yara Unveiled in Kumasi
A life size billboard of the legendary football star Baba Yara has been unveiled at one of the main entrances of the magnificent Kumasi Sports Stadium named after the late football icon.
The giant billboard sponsored by Unibank is a now top attraction in the Garden City and football fans,mainly the youth have been frequenting the site at near Amakom to see the legendary football star of Asante Kotoko fame who was affectionately called "King of Wingers"
Baba Yara’s football career was cruelly cut short on March 24 1963 through a motor accident involving Real Republikans at Kpeve in the Volta Region when the team was returning to Accra from a league match played against Kpandu Mulpos. He remained in a wheel chair till he died on 5th May 1969 at 33.
A spokesman for PHOTOSPORTS originators of the billboard Mr. I.K.Edusei has told reporters that the billboard is the first in a series being planned by his company in consultation with the sports authorities to honour the nation’s sports heroes both the living and the
dead.
