This was the year Ghana achieved the distinction of being the first African country to win an Olympic football medal-a bronze. For the third consecutive Olympics Ghana entered three sports disciplines, soccer, boxing and athletics. Once again it was boxing that gave Ghana a medal - thanks to Prince Amartey’s bronze when he lost in the semi-finals. MEXICO OLYMPICS 1968

Like Tokyo 1964 Ghana once again entered for boxing, athletics and football at the Mexico 1968 Olympics. The football discipline was however on invitation because the zonal winners Morocco pulled out. Their reason was that they felt uncomfortable being in the same group with Israel for political reasons. Ghana had placed second in the qualifying series and the invitation was most welcome. more »
